Eligibility Requirements for NC Pre-K

NC Pre-K is designed to serve at-risk 4-year-olds throughout North Carolina. Cabarrus County families can apply through the county's SmartStart office or directly through Dixon Academy.

A Full Day Built Around Learning

NC Pre-K is a full-day program operating Monday through Friday, following the local school calendar.

7:00 – 9:00 AM
Morning Arrival & Breakfast — Nutritious breakfast, health check, and morning exploration in learning centers.
9:00 – 9:30 AM
Morning Meeting — Whole-group time: morning message, calendar, shared reading, songs, and daily language focus.
9:30 – 11:30 AM
Work Time / Small Groups — Learning center exploration with teacher-facilitated small group instruction in literacy and math domains.
11:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Lunch & Outdoor Play — Family-style lunch and active gross motor time outdoors.
1:00 – 3:00 PM
Rest Period — Nap or quiet independent activity. Individualized teacher support.
3:00 – 6:00 PM
Afternoon Enrichment — STEM, arts, music, additional outdoor time, afternoon snack, and closing circle.
